Amendments 19-23

The 19-23 Amendments are important to the Constitution because they give the right to vote to women and lay down the rules for when a President or Vice President may take office, furthermore they ended prohibition, then it lays the law down for how many terms a President can serve, plus they gave the district of Columbia a vote in the presidential electorate. The 19th amendment is the Equal suffrage-sex, in this amendment it states that no person can be denied the right to vote no matter what their sex is, so it gave women the right to vote, and it gave Congress the power to enforce this amendment by means of proper legistlation.

The 20th amendment is the Commencement of Terms/Sessions of Congress/Death or disqualification of President-Elect, in this amendment it states that "The date on which the President and Vice President now take office was moved from March 4, to January 20. Similarly, the members of the Congress now begin their terms on January 3." (McClenaghan)This amendment also states that if the President or Vice President are not able to do their duties, that the Congress may select a temporary President and Vice President until a new President and Vice President are voted in, and the last thing this amendment talks about is that it set a date for when this amendment would come into action and it placed a time limit on the ratification process. The 21st amendment is the Repeal of the 18th amendment, it basically did away with prohibition, now the sale and import/export of intoxicating liquors was allowed.

The 22nd amendment is the Presidential Tenure, it "stipulates no President may serve more than two elected terms. But a President who has succeeded to the office beyond the midpoint in a term to which another President was originally elected may serve for more than eight years. In any case, however, a President may not serve more than 10 years." (McClenaghan) So basically this amendment puts restrictions on how long a President can serve. The 23rd amendment is the Presidential Electors for the District of Columbia. "The Twenty-third Amendment did not make Washington D.C., a state, but did grant its citizens the right to vote in Presidential elections and it allotted the Ditrict the number of electors it would have if it were a state." (Ritchie)So basically this amendment gave the people of the district of Columbia a vote in the Presidential elections. This is what the 19th-23rd amendments say, I personally think that some of these are very important to the Constitution such as the 19th which gave woman the right to vote and the 22nd which stated that a President could only serve two terms, except for certain circumstances, so overall the 19th-23rd are important to the Constitution.
